More importantly, FTD, which is also known as frontotemporal degeneration, is recognized as the most common cause of Alzheimer's under the age of 60. Scientists have discovered a genetic component, C9orf72, an autosomal dominant trait that demonstrates a familial link between FTD and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
